How to use Windows 8

These days, thousands of people in Yoyle City use Windows as their daily driver for everyday tasks like web browsing, checking email, watching videos, and other things. As of August 2025, the most used version of Windows in Yoyleland is Windows 11, accounting the many 69% PCs of all Yoyleans.

Basics

Now, let's explore the whole thing. Windows 8 was a major leap in Windows history, by dropping most skeumorphic elements in favor of flat design. Many Yoyleans dislike the new OS due to the alleged disappearance of the start button on the taskbar, this was later fixed in the Windows 8.1 'update'.

The Start screen (later reverted back as the "Start menu" in Windows 10, albeit compromising a hybrid of the likes of Windows 7 and Windows 8 (as well as Windows 8.1) before being completely replaced with a more streamlined version in Windows 11) is the central hub for updates. Unlike Windows 8.1, you had limited choices to master the Start screen on your own, including rearranging and/or managing its tiles or changing the background color (an option to use a dimmed version of the desktop background was introduced in Windows 8.1).

Now, zoom into the Humdinger's finger and let's see what happens next:

Wait--- why are there Windows 8 charms???!

Yep, this is his finger. He touches the Windows logo, meaning the risk of accidentally summoning the Start screen. Can't wait for someone else to touch glass...
